LSU Quality Points and Determining Deficit

Grade point average (GPA) is a numerical assessment of a student's academic progress. At LSU, GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the number of hours attempted.

If a student's grade point average (GPA) is below 2.00, that student has a deficit. If a student has a 2.00, but his/her degree program requires a higher GPA to enter, that student also has a deficit. The deficit is calculated by multiplying the total number of hours carried by 2.00 (or the needed GPA) and subtracting the total number of quality points earned.
